CLIFFS OF MOHER FAQs
What Are the Cliffs of Moher? Why Are They Famous?
The Cliffs of Moher are dramatic cliffs above the North Atlantic Ocean. They are located in the west of the Republic of Ireland in County Clare.
The Cliffs of Moher are arguably the biggest visitor attraction in Ireland, famous for their beauty and stunning scenery. They run for about 14 kilometers (9 miles) and reach 214m (702 feet) in height at their highest point.
Are the Cliffs of Moher Worth It to See?
Absolutely! I think the Cliffs of Moher are worth a visit. One of the top-rated things to do when visiting Ireland is making a trip to see the Cliffs, and most people would regret not seeing them while they’re in this part of the world.
The Cliffs of Moher are a UNESCO Global Geopark (a landscape of international geological significance) and extremely beautiful and awe-inspiring. They are arguably the #1 site to see in the Republic of Ireland.
However, the Cliffs of Moher ARE one of the most popular tourist spots in Ireland. And as is often true with most famous tourist locations… it’s obviously popular for a reason, but that means it’s also often overcrowded.
There are plenty of other incredible sites and scenery across Ireland that are much less known but equally as stunning in their own right. If you can spare more time, I highly recommend a multi-day tour to get more in.
Can You Do a Day Trip From Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher?
Yes! You can do a day trip from Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher. One day from Dublin to visit the Cliffs of Moher would take you a minimum of 10 hours, though likely a bit longer to not be rushed.
There are many tours that run from Dublin to the cliffs that vary in length and even stay overnight if you wanted to have a slower, more relaxed experience. You will also be able to find both small group tours and private tours from Dublin.
How Far From Dublin Are the Cliffs of Moher?
It takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to get to the Cliffs of Moher from Dublin, which is on the opposite coast of Ireland, though almost straight across the country.
How Long Does It Take to Tour Cliffs of Moher?
It can take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours to tour the Cliffs of Moher.
If you simply want pictures and to take in the site for a bit, you won’t need very much time at the cliffs. If you want to hike around and do more exploring, plan accordingly. It takes about 5 hours to walk the entire 14km stretch.

Day Trip Tours of the Cliffs of Moher From Dublin

Galway is one of my favorite cities in Ireland! There’s more to do (though you still won’t have a ton of time to explore during your day tour) and is often referred to as the “cultural capital” of Ireland for how lively it always is.

The weather changes constantly throughout the day at the Cliffs of Moher. It can be windy and grey at one moment, and bright sunshine at the next. Make sure to layer (bring a raincoat and light to heavy jacket) in case you need to take off a layer when the sun comes out.
Bring water and snacks (it’s a great place to picnic when sunny!) and of course – don’t forget your camera!
