Is Cornwall Good for Couples?
Cornwall is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. With its stunning coastline, fairytale castles, and hidden coves, there are countless possibilities for a romantic adventure just waiting to be discovered.
I grew up exploring Cornwall and over the years I’ve gotten to know every inch of this beautiful county. I think that it is one of the best places in England for planning a couples getaway with your loved one.
So here are my top 10 picks for the best places in Cornwall for couples.
Let’s dive in!
Top 10 Best Places to Visit in Cornwall for Couples
1. Penzance
Penzance is a beautiful coastal town in West Cornwall, UK. With its stunning ocean views, romantic cliff-side walks, and quaint streets lined with colorful shops and cafes, it’s the perfect destination for couples looking to get away from it all.
Whether you’re looking for an intimate dinner by the sea or just some time alone to reconnect with your partner, Penzance has something special for everyone.
Visitors can explore the Egyptian House, a Grade II listed building from 1835, take a stroll along Marazion Beach, or take a dip in Jubilee Pool, one of the few remaining Art Deco Lidos in the country.
Couples can also discover local markets, visit the tidal island of St Michael’s Mount or enjoy intimate dinners by the sea such as at the Dolphin Tavern.
If you fancy a day trip, the gorgeous Lizard Peninsula is just a 40-minute drive away.
My favorite thing to do in Penzance is to visit St Michael’s Mount, a fairytale castle that rises majestically from the sea. The views here are simply stunning and it’s one of the most romantic places in Cornwall.
⭐️ Best for: Shopping and convenient access to nearby attractions
2. St Ives
St Ives is renowned for its beautiful beaches, quaint cobbled streets, and bustling harbor. It’s one of the most popular destinations in Cornwall and is the perfect place to spend an afternoon exploring with your partner.
Take a leisurely stroll along the many winding paths and explore the galleries, cafes, and boutique shops that line the streets.
Art aficionados will be able to explore the Tate St Ives gallery which is home to an impressive collection of artworks. You can also visit Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, which has several sculptures situated around the beautiful grounds.
There are also several smaller independent galleries. My partner and I love to spend an afternoon popping into each one and I think that it is one of the most romantic things to do in Cornwall.
After a day of exploring, couples can enjoy a romantic stroll along one of the beaches and take in the stunning views of St Ives. Nearby Carbis Bay is stunning and the St Ives harbor beach is also a good spot. My favorite beach in St Ives is Porthwiggen beach as it tends to be quieter than the others.
At night, head to one of the many restaurants and pubs in St Ives to sample some of the local delicacies. My favorite spots for food are The Balcony, Porthmeor beach cafe, and Bird & Beer.
Or why not try your hand at a spot of crabbing while admiring the stunning night sky? One of the best places is behind Smeaton’s Pier off the old pier wall. Just be cautious of the high tides!
No matter what you have planned, there’s something for every couple at St Ives and it’s an ideal destination for a romantic getaway.

8. Bodmin
Couples that are fans of the paranormal can’t miss Bodmin Moor!
The eerie moors have been the source of numerous superstitions for years, with the most notorious being the legendary beast of Bodmin.
Since the 1970s, sightings of this majestic big cat have become more and more common, some people think it is a former pet jaguar that was released onto the moors and some say it is something a little more ghostly.
As a child, I can recall taking long car rides across the moor with my eyes glued to the window in hopes of catching a glimpse of it. While I was never fortunate enough to see it myself, there is still something special about searching for such an elusive (and perhaps imaginary) creature!
As well as looking out for the beast of Bodmin you can also visit the historic Jamaica Inn.
Constructed in 1750, the inn was once a favorite gathering place for pirates and smugglers. Now, various eerie paranormal events are said to occur there–so much so that it even inspired a spine-tingling episode of Most Haunted!
If you’re still looking for thrills and chills, why not spend an evening at the hair-raising Bodmin Jail?
Even if the paranormal isn’t your thing, Bodmin should still be on your radar. It’s a picturesque area with plenty of trails for you to explore and enjoy.
