Important Information About Staying in an Ireland Castle Hotel

Staying in a castle hotel is one of the most incredible experiences you can have in Ireland! I stayed in Kilronan Castle Hotel with my family over Christmas a few years ago – and it was truly exceptional!

However, and this is potentially obvious but still worth stating… these are still HOTELS. You will not be staying in a working castle, beyond the exterior and some of the events and decor, it still feels like a hotel.

Some castle stays feel more authentic and “magical” than others, and some feel more like a hotel with a fancy name and cool exterior. Make sure you know what you’re getting into!

So, before you pick the castle hotel of your dreams… there are a few things you should know.

⭐ Book in Advance

Castle hotels in Ireland (especially the more popular or high-end ones) fill up FAST. And I mean sometimes a year plus in advance fast. So if you see a castle you like, make sure to check the availability and secure your booking ASAP!

⭐ Make Sure to Check the Photos

Again, some Irish castle hotels are more intricate and authentic than others. Make sure to scroll through the photos (or down to the bottom where the rooms are listed) and see photos of the exact room type you are booking.

Many castle hotels in Ireland put a lot of detail into their suites and nicer rooms, then have a handful of basic hotel rooms to fill occupancy. Make sure to check the photos carefully, or you might find yourself disappointed in the type of room you get.

⭐ Pricing + Budget for Castle Hotels in Ireland

Castle hotels in Ireland sound like they will be VERY expensive. While there are five-star castle hotels with spas and extra amenities, there are also plenty of castle stays that are more affordable as well.

In this list, I have tried to compile a fair mix of a range of costs per night. There is likely still a perfect castle stay for you – no matter your budget!

Can You Stay Overnight in an Irish Castle?

Yes, there are plenty of castles in Ireland you can stay overnight in! Many of them have an incredible history of being inhabited by royalty and have changed very little for centuries. Though you will still find every comfort and amenity you need in them!

There are Irish castle hotels of all kinds, from old, rustic, and historic to more modern. You will be able to find castles amongst some of the most stunning natural scenery in Ireland of tranquil mountains or crystal blue lakes.

Stay in royal, four-poster beds and dine on multi-course dinners or attend shows and events that will have you feeling like a little kid living out your wildest fairytale dreams!

Can You Stay in a Castle in Dublin, Ireland?

Yes, there are castle hotels near Dublin. The Clontarf Castle Hotel is the closest, located in the northern part of Dublin and not too far from the Dublin airport. More information is below.

What Is the Most Visited Castle in Ireland?

The most popular castle in Ireland to visit is the Blarney Castle, mostly to kiss the Blarney Stone and receive the gift of “persuasiveness and eloquence”. Dublin Castle is frequently visited as well, mostly due to its location in Dublin’s city center.

Unfortunately, neither of these castles are places you can stay overnight in. In fact, most of the popular castles you would go to tour are not castles you can sleep in. Most of the castles you stay overnight in are specifically designated as hotels.
